Accountant: Accounts Payable

The Workhouse Arts Founda�on, Inc. (WAF) is a non-profit 501(c)3 corpora�on with a mission to operate
the Workhouse Arts Center (WAC) (opened in 2008) with programs in the visual arts, performing arts,
arts educa�on, and history through the repurposing of the former Workhouse correc�onal facility.

experiences in visual and performing arts, educa�on classes, historical perspec�ve, community

Job Summary:
The role of this accountant, specializing in accounts payable and contracts management func�ons, is
integral to the management of daily financial and accoun�ng ac�vi�es. This posi�on involves overseeing
accounts payable, cash disbursements, contracts management, expense data entries, and account
reconcilia�ons. Working closely with the Controller/Director of Finance, this role involves enforcing
financial policies, processes, upholding compliance with accoun�ng standards, and maintaining precise
record-keeping.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Policies, Processes and Procedures
• Assists, as appropriate in the development and implementa�on of goals, policies, priori�es,
processes and procedures for financial management, budget, and accoun�ng.
Financial Statement Prepara�on
• Assists with the prepara�on of financial statements and related financial reports and analysis.
Accoun�ng
• Maintains me�culous accoun�ng processes and recording methods, ensuring strict compliance
with relevant accoun�ng standards and best prac�ces.
Cash Management
• Responsible for collec�ng and accurately logging daily cash transac�ons for the WAF.
Reconcilia�ons
• Reviews and reconciles general ledger accounts, with bank and investment accounts.
Payroll
• Assists as needed to process and record payroll.
Repor�ng and Analysis
• Prepares financial repor�ng and analysis as directed.
Corporate records
• Ensures the maintenance of electronic and paper copies of human resources, contracts, financial
and accoun�ng corporate records.
Audit
• Supports the Controller/Director of Finance with audits. Assists in the maintenance of internal
controls for financial systems and develops procedures to improve exis�ng systems. Assists in the
coordina�on and prepara�on of external audit materials.
Support
• Interacts, as appropriate, with internal and external par�es in maters pertaining to human
resources, contracts, financial and accoun�ng issues.
Year End Close
• Assists in the prepara�on of all year-end data and journal entries required for audit and tax
purposes.
Financial Informa�on Sharing and Educa�on
• Collaborates effec�vely with program staff to ensure comprehensive understanding and
adherence to human resources, contracts, and financial policies, processes, and prac�ces.
Planning
• Assists in the prepara�on of long-range revenue and expenditure es�mates as necessary to
forecast economic feasibility of various projects.
Contracts
• Oversees the WAF contracts management processes and procedures, assuring the compliance
with all related WAF policies and other external guidance. This includes the prepara�on, review,
and records management of all contracts.
Projects
• Assists and supports various financial and accoun�ng projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Either a bachelor’s degree in accoun�ng or business management with an emphasis in accoun�ng
administra�ve tasks correctly and on �me. Responds to management direc�on and follows
instruc�on, as appropriate.
Status: Full-�me, at-will, exempt posi�on
Reports to: Director of Finance
Compensa�on/Benefits: $55,000-$70,000 annually, with a benefits package that includes a
health/dental insurance plan, life, disability and ADD insurance plan, a re�rement plan (non-matching),
PTO, compensatory �me off, and other employee benefits.
Schedule: 40 hours per week; to occur during primary business hours of 9:00AM to 5:00PM, Monday
through Friday. Some weekends and weeknights are required.
Loca�on: On-site, with the poten�al for remote work flexibility up to one day per week
